Asparagus

Asparagus originated in the eastern Mediterranean. Their fleshy green spears are topped with bud-like compact heads and their stalks stand six-to-eight inches tall.

Able to grow up to ten inches high in 24 hours, dark green asparagus is the most commonly grown variety although it is also available in white and purple.
